How did Ube-be Baby begin?
Lana: As a first generation Asian-Canadian growing up in mostly predominantly non-Asian communities, and someone who struggled with their identity most of their life as a result, I know how important identity is and the crucial role that representation plays. I decided when I was pregnant that I wanted to find some cute things for my baby that would help her embrace, and showcase the Asian part of her culture, as well as give her a head start in her journey to forming her identity. When my search proved disappointing, I approached my long time high school buddy/sister-from-another-mister/amazing designer, and pitched the idea to her. Not long after, Ube-be Baby was born!

What does Asian representation mean to you?
Cassie: As someone fair-skinned, I've always had a "Who Am I?" complex about the whole thing – I'm Filipino but I don't have any of your typical features. I so badly wanted to fit in with my fellow Asians despite not really obviously looking like one. Back then it wasn't "cool" to be Asian, but it was always something I wanted to be associated with because, well, I am Asian too. Since then Asian Representation has come so far! It's becoming more "normal" to see Asians on-screen, hear Asian pop-music play almost eveyrwhere, etc. I love it! I'm so grateful that we have this opportunity to make a splash in this wave.

What can we expect from Ube-be Baby?
Lana: Ube-be Baby (pronounced "ooh-baby-baby") is a clothing line for babies and kids. Our goal is to help future generations to embrace, represent, and celebrate their Asian-Canadian/Asian-American culture.
Cassie: And there's no better way to represent than with Ube-be Baby!
